DHS Student Council
The student council is a body of students that seeks to be a voice for their peers, recognizing student concerns and interests in efforts to create an involved and positive student climate while being active members within the school community and greater Deerfield community.
Mission Statement:
We will promote positive goal setting in the areas of communication, organization, and citizenship by presenting and listening to ideas within our school and community, planning and executing events and ideas with care consideration, and reaching out to make a positive difference.

Position Descriptions:
President
Prerequisites: Must have been a member of the HSSC for at least 1 year.
Primary responsibilities include: representing the student body, networking with students, faculty, and administration, attending board meetings, overseeing the Student Council, creating an agenda for each meeting, running the meetings, and delegating tasks to members.
Vice-President
Prerequisites: Must have been a member of the HSSC for at least 1 year.
Primary responsibilities include: representing the student body, networking with students, faculty, and administration, filling in for the President at board meetings when necessary, collaborating with the President in setting agendas, running meetings, and delegating tasks to members. Coordinate and collect evaluations and surveys quarterly on the state of the council itself, and following any school events planned by or involving the student council.
Secretary
Primary responsibilities include: keeping minutes at each meeting, send emails and additional correspondence as necessary. Manage the student suggestion box and bring forth suggestions at regular meetings. Be prepared with a minutes report at each meeting and place on bulletin board as well. Take roll at meetings and record event attendance.
Treasurer
Primary responsibilities include: overseeing funds, check and reimbursement requisitions, checking with office secretary to maintain an account balance, and following through with the financial decisions made by Student Council as a governing body. Be prepared to give a report of financial status at each meeting. Developing a budget for the year that is voted on by the Student Council is also a primary duty.
All positions include the responsibility to act as a mentor 5 other members of the student council, helping to build trust and community amongst the council and resolve conflicts among members.
